Just wishing that everyone on this site who is going through some painful or difficult illness themselves are doing ok. Also wish for the children to be well and the parents to have faith.

Sue, I believe you made the right choice. Try not to be afraid. They are very good with this type of surgery today. Any surgery is an intrusion and a risk. Living day to day in fear and worry is so awful. I know you will be well.
Bonnie Lee, Squamus cell cancer takes a while. Can you find a clinic in your area? It is easy to treat and there must be somewhere you can get help. Worrying about leaving your family in debt is not how you should approach your own life. Try to think more about living a long time and being able to pay off the necessary treatment without day to day stress over skin cancer.
I am sorry if I am writing too much but my goal as a nurse was for all my patients to recover. And I always felt that way no matter how ill they were. I just expected everyone to get better. I still feel that works and I saw a lot of children and adults survive under very terrible circumstances. Just never give up.

Still keeping all who write here in my prayers and thoughts. I hope that all of us when we or our family members are diagnosed with cancer will try any official treatment offered. Farrah Fawcett's anal cancer might have taken a different turn if she had had a colostomy early on in the disease. You have to think of cancer like a bad sore or infection that just does not go away. The way you treat diabetic sores for example is to remove pressure from the area and treat with specific drugs and other treatments. Cancer in a way is the same because you have to often isolate the area affected and take pressure away. that is what a colostomy does for colon, anal or rectal cancer in particular. Then the doctors can treat the area specifically with chemo or therapy.
My point is that we need to seek the best sources and then we have to stick with them and do what is recommended. Many people live for years with colostomies and no one ever knows the patient even has one.
This means you also can use alternative diets and all the rest of the natural ways people recommend along with the professional treatment.
Going to another country is a personal choice and everyone has to make their own decisions right or wrong. I happen to think that we in the USA have many opportunities for treatment right here.
Thanks everyone if you bother to read this. But I just wish more people would be more persistent in following their recommended treatments. God Bless and Keep everyone safe and well.

I have had a brain aneurysm for a while now and the doctors have been keeping an eye on it to check its growth. Originally, the response was "You won't need to worry about it unless it grows to such and such size." The last time I saw my neurologist, I knew it had grown to that size because he had a hard time even looking at me straight in the eyes.
He sent me back to the neurosurgeon who sent me to another neurosurgeon because the second one was an expert at coiling and that is what they were hoping could be done to my aneurysm. (Coiling is a method whereby they insert a bunch of tiny coils through a vein near the groin and guide them up to the aneurysm. The coils fill the space and, basically, get rid of the aneurysm.) Unfortunately, my aneurysm was the wrong shape for coiling...the proper shape has to be like a balloon to prevent the coils from leaking back out.
I was left with the option of either taking the "Let's hope for the best" route or the conventional method of operating on aneurysms, which they had originally deemed too dangerous for me due to my age...I'm in my late 50's which is a gray area for the operation.
I have chosen to have the operation, even though there is a higher chance of death or stroke on the table...because I can't just wait around and hope that nothing will happen and I certainly cannot live a stress free life. So, there it stands. The hospital phoned today that my pre-op appointment is June 3rd. I am so very scared...and i have so much to do before then.
God, did I make the right choice????????

Well Kids, I am still alive. I had my bone marrow rechecked (Bone marrow aspiration) and there is no cancer in my bone marrow now and it was 50% compromised 2 years ago, so the DCA must have helped clear that up! Now if only the FDA would let us have Dichloroacetate (DCA). It's only $30.00 a month and makes the night sweats go away, the pain in bones when the marrow is involved goes away, the itching skin quiets down, everything... anyway, I had no idea it worked until I had the aspiration done, so then, since I couldn't get more DCA, I went ahead and had cytoxin chemo and I am really scared about this, but I am going for the bone marrow stem cell transplant. I will go into Jewish Kenwood Hospital in Cincinnati on the 13th of May for extensive chemo with BCNU chemo the first day, Ara-C & VP 16 chemo on days 2-5 and Melphalan on day 6 then the stem cells get injected on the 7th day. I am scared out of my wits right now, so say a few prayers for me.
