Hmmm. I've lived here all my life and have never seen a tornado. The warning system (sirens) is pretty good if sometimes a little over zealous, but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry. Tornadoes are not that big a threat unless you live in a trailer home or you're stuck in traffic in your car.
I think the worst part about living in the Dallas area is the summer heat!
I've lived in Texas almost my whole life, and we had a tornado in 1996. It destroyed a lot of the town, but it was a once in a lifetime event! People are still talking about it. Texas has severe weather just like every other state in the country. Sometimes it's bad, sometimes it isn't. But, I'll tell you about something else Texas has, and that's great people!! If you're thinking about moving here, do it! My husband was transferred to Florida, and we lived there for almost 10 years. I couldn't wait to get back to Texas, even though Florida really is like paradise, it's beautiful, and the weather is unbelieveable!

I drove from Dallas to Houston and back this weekend and with all the recent rains the bluebonnets and Indian paintbrushes and wild violets were in full bloom and absolutely beautiful! One of my favorite things about spring in Texas are these beautiful flowers that line our roadways!
I love TEXAS too and you are right, there is no place like TEXAS!
I'm from Dallas, my husband is from NY, we lived in Florida for ten LONG years, and I was doing the happy dance when we returned home. We frequently travel, but HOME is TEXAS! There is a not so quiet spirit that is in all of us. A spirit that I don't see everywhere. And if you're here long enough, (and it doesn't take long) it will conquer your heart and soul, too.
As the old saying goes, (and my husband agrees) he wasn't born here, but he got here as quick as he could!
I was born here and I will die here.
