It's nice to see our litte STL Fan Group growing a tiny bit at a time. With summer and the end of this current television season fast approaching, I guess things on this site will be slow for awhile minus a small summer season. Bonnie will have time off to go visit her friends and family in Chicago and go to lots of Cubs games as they eventually sink to last place and celebrate their 100+ year losing streak. Fortunately for the STL Fans, we'll be able to cheer for our 1st Place St. Louis Cardinals who hopefully will hang in there the entire season and may even make another run for the World Championship this year. I bet Bonnie is very jealous of us!!!

Once you've tried it, you know it's the best!!!! Ted Drewes is not the only thing to miss about Saint Louis, but it's definitely one very good reason. Did you know that you can have it shipped overnight? You pay the actual cost plus tax for the frozen custard and you pay the rate for the guaranteed overnight delivery, which admittly is steep. They use only one carrier for that; FED EX or UPS, I cannot remember which one, but you can look them up online (www.teddrewes.com) and call if you want the details. Ted Drewes still closes for a period of time in the late winter, but that time has been shortened over the years to being what seems like less than a month or a little more. I'm sure they are currently open for business now. My Aunt lives on a street directly behind the location on Chippewa, so I drive by there fairly regularly. Okay, so if you haven't guessed already, YES, I have paid to have it shipped to different places in the past. For many years before they started this overnight service, they carried dry ice on hand so that fresh orders could arrive and make it to their destination without completely melting. They had also provided the service of taking your order in advance and putting it in their minus 50 degree temperature freezer that instantly freezes the custard so that when it thaws, it's the same consistency as when you ordered it. This way you could order it in advance and take it home to put in your freezer if you wanted it for an occasion to serve like a party or something. This is well before they started putting their product in the freezers of local stores; Dierbergs, Shnucks, Walgreens, etc. Anyway, in the late 1980's when I found out about those two services, I put two and two together and decided I could take the custard to friends that didn't live in the area anymore. The first time I did this, I placed an advance order and showed before closing time with my own small Playmate cooler. They packed my cooler, providing the dry ice for free. Before I left, I happened to mention that I would be catching my flight the next morning and taking the Ted Drewes with me to share with friends. When asked where I was going, I told them the truth; their custard was taking a 17 hour flight with me to Narita, Japan as part of my carry on luggage. This of course was a time when we didn't have current carry on and security restrictions. No doubt this information made it back to the store manger/owner. With 12-14 months, I repeated the same senario, taking the next order with me on a trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I think there's a chance that their idea for overnight shipping may have actually evolved from what I had done several times. At the point in which I found out they were now offering the overnight shipping, the person handling my advance order told me they had heard that at one time someone had actually taken their custard as far as Japan and as it happens I knew exactly who that was. Well, I'm sure you'd rather be here in person to get some Ted Drewes. Maybe sometime if you have a special occassion you can consider the next best thing to being here and have an order shipped. There's only a few flavors and cobination that cannot be deep frozen, like banana. Take Care.
