I'm totally amazed by my success with Bonnie's eating plan. I started on September 30th, 2009 and weighed 202 pounds and here we are on October 31 and I weighed in this morning at 183----for a total of 19 pounds the first month!
I am counting calories (no more than 1500 each day) and walk at least 30 minutes each day. No fancy gym membership required! I do Wii Fit exercises a couple days a week and use hand weights and stretching exercises during TV commercials. I only use 100% whole grain tortillas, bread or english muffins for my breads. I eat 3 meals and 2 snacks each day, always making sure to combine proteins and carbs at each one----very important!!!!
I also avoid processed foods whenever possible---I make my own soups, salads, etc. to control what is in them. I think it is very important to cut out all artificial ingredients and chemicals to have success with this plan. I gave up diet soda and substitute sparkling water with lemons/limes. IT IS IMPORTANT TO GIVE UP SODA---one of the worst things you can put into your body!!!! I gave up caffeine a long time ago, but have found that one iced tea a day around 3:00pm with my second snack is a great energy booster! I also take a multi-vitamin and several other supplements each day. (Calcium, Vit E, Vit C, Acidolphilis, and Flaxseed Oil) I also drink at least 8 glasses of water daily.
I keep a daily journal of each day's meals and will be happy to post some of my entries, so that anyone interested can see how I'm certainly not starving on this plan. I have several glasses of wine each week, and dark chocolate at least twice a week and still am having a great deal of success.
I have been fighting being overweight my entire life and have tried just about every plan around. I'm 46 years old and have reached a point mentally where I know it can't be about a DIET anymore, it has to be a commitment to a life stye change and way of thinking about food and exercise. Once you get to that mind set and start this plan, I know it will work for you as it does for me. Just count the calories, eat proteins/carbs together and walk every day!!!! Good luck everyone, and I'll post those sample menu days soon!
